Production Manager (bilingual EN/FR)

Red Letter Films, award-winning television production company, is looking for its new full time production manager/business affairs. We want a self-motivated candidate able to work with our team at our South Surrey office. You must be well organized and have strong communication skills. You will also need excellent coordination and people skills to take on the day-to-day tasks during productions. This position is an excellent career development opportunity for a proactive individual with a strong background in administration and management. You will work closely with the producer and every department including accounting.
Job description:

– In collaboration with the producer, manage the day-to-day production activity for documentaries, TV doc series, TV magazines and TV shows and the associated digital media projects.
– Collaborate closely with accounting and post-production departments.
– Prepare and oversee budgets, cost reports and production schedules from development to delivery.
– Prepare, oversee and follow through funding applications to the Canada Media Fund (CMF), provincial and federal tax credits, and private funds.
– Coordinate the logistics during production and oversee the hiring process of contractors: including negotiating deal memos, organizing travel & accommodation, insurance, visa, ATA carnet…
– Coordinate research done by contractors in collaboration with the producer and director.
– Supervise preliminary location scouting when applicable and follow up in collaboration with the location manager.
– Manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Qualifications:

Experience in administration and management is a must. TV or film production experience an asset. Experience in project management an asset.

Budgeting and financial skills:
You need experience in preparing and monitoring budgets.
You will prepare budgets in Excel as per CMF format, cash flows, financing structures, tax credit calculations (federal and provincial) and prepare all the required documents for funding applications. You will be in charge, in collaboration with accounting, to monitor expenses and analyze cost reports.

Organizational and reporting skills:
You need to be detail-oriented so you can manage the flow of information on multiple projects simultaneously, and coordinate shootings and production schedules in constant communication with the producer and director. You will coordinate the logistics for various projects or directly supervise a production coordinator as applicable. This includes managing travel and accommodation.

Research skills:
You need experience using the Internet, email, or whatever is necessary to find the information you need that is not already available to you (visa applications, funding applications, legal information…). You will also need to establish connections with people and locations that you need for the projects.

Interpersonal skills:
You must have great interpersonal skills and can speak in person, by email or on the phone with anyone necessary to get the job done including but not limited to: cast and crews, accountants, auditors, tax credit analysts, lawyers, CMF analysts, suppliers, union representatives, broadcaster representatives, police/government/city representatives.

Human Resources skills:
You need the ability to hire, organize and manage a production crew (from 4 to 80 people depending on projects). You must negotiate rates and working conditions. You must be able to remain calm, collected and present a positive attitude in all circumstances.

Bilingual French/English is a must.

Valid BC driver’s license.

Writer-Researcher – Summer Employment

Red Letter Films, an award-winning television production company, is seeking a summer student to fill the position of Writer-Researcher on our production team. This position will be funded through the government program Young Canada at Work and the successful candidate will work at our office in South Surrey. Candidates must be able to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and be fluent in French.

Compensation is $14.50 hourly, 35 hours per week. The position will take place from May 15 to August 18, 2017 at our office in South Surrey, 40 km south of Vancouver, BC.

Key responsibilities include researching and developing ideas for documentary projects for television and other mediums, such as online platforms. The student may also partake in other projects, according to their strengths and abilities.

In order to be considered, you must be returning to a post-secondary institution in the fall of 2017 in the field of journalism, communications or social sciences. The position requires a high level of oral and written communication in French. A driver’s license and the ability to rent a car (min. 21 years of age) is mandatory. Knowledge of documentary style programming and television standards is an asset.  Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office and Photoshop.

The position is open to women, visible minorities and First Nations. Transportation for non-British Columbia residents will be covered by the Young Canada at Work program.
